This hysterical elephant—look out, if you've read your Orwell—is the official logo of the 2008 Republican National Convention, to be held, unremarkably enough, across the way from the Mall of America. Has the elephant been shot? Is it rearing to stampede? Is it done stampeding? All over Iran, maybe? Or what's left of the Constitution? Olympic and political logos are meant to be ugly. It's their only chance to create buzz. But this is ridiculous. Maybe the designers are Democrats, and this is their way to pull off the first jungle laugh of the presidential election. With many more to come, to be sure.
